Conservation and Management Plan for Dal- Nagin Lake
3. PROPOSED INTERVENTIONS
The details of the proposed interventions are contained in the second volume of the report and are summarised below:-
The degradation of catchment is recognised as an important, constituent leading to problems in fresh water lakes management plan . In the present study this has been drawn out on the watershed basis and the catchment has been divided into the following six zones , consisting of more than one watershed. Top
Lake Hillside
Dal lake
City Area
Chhartrahama
Dara
Dachigam
The meteorological data for the catchment as collected by India Meterological Department, Sher-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology and J&K Department of Irrigation and Flood Control has been used data on soils Viz. Types ,Physio-chemical Properties, profile description, infilteration rates etc. vegetation and land use in various zones was collected during this study
A base line survey and participatory rural appraisal exercise was also conducted in six villages Viz. Astanpur, Dara Chakdara, Gunidtal faquir Gujri and Hodura. Top
In order to assess the sediments yield . Mirkis mathematical model used. The surfaces runoff for use in this was computed using the soil conservation service curve number (SCSCN) method , which gave an average values of 575 mm or 185 million m . The gross sediment yield works out to 1,84,476 tons/yr while the sediments delivery ratio is computed to be 0.33, resulting in a net sediment yield of 60,877 tons/yr on an average, with the likelihood of its varying between 49708 tons.yr to 67,844 tons/yr. Alternative. The STPS will provided at six sites . The treated effluent of three STPs will flow out of the lake and the rest after tertiary treatment will be discharged into the lake (around 40%)
In achiving the above concept , the sewerage system was divided into three zones and six subzones. The population projections for each zone wre worked out as follows:- Top

The water s supply has been taken as 150 1pcd with an interception factor 0.8 . An addition of 15% has been made to take care of unaccounted flow. The total sewage generated in all zones works out to be 36.7 mld in the year 2017. A total of nine IPS, one in Zone 1, six (under construction) in Zone 2 and two ( existing ) in zone 3 are proposed . The decentralization has resulted in a significant reduction in the cost of sewers and of operation & maintenance Top
The FAB technology cosists of screening grit removal, biological treatment ( bioreactions), tertiary, treatment of clariflocculator ( with alum), centrifuge (chlorination. six . Six units as detailed below are proposed Top

The catchment management plan has been prepared keeping the above in view. Site specfic measures for catchment treatment in indentified zones have been proposed. The measures proposed include Top
Restoration degradtion forests through plantation , countour hedgerows and in situ moisture conservation.
Fuel , Wood and fooder plantation of indigienous exotic species.
Drainage line treatment through properly desigend structures such as Caheck Dams. R.C.C drop structures . Retard, gabions, stone walls, Trenching, fencing water tanks and Troughs and wetting.
Forage production through Silvi – Pastures development and on – farm fodder development
Beneficiary partcipation through entry point activity Top
The necesssary institution development through establishment of watershed Mangement unit and capacity building at gross roots level through bwatershed Development Committes have also been proposed . Methodology for execution of works , monitoring and review has also been descriebed.
